Mulholland Drive: Your dreams always have its counterparts

The film is about Diane who met Camilla Rhodes. They had an affair but Camilla decided to break it. Diane was so devastated about it. For me, the film genre is a film noir because of the fog and smoke. A dark and mysterious character is also present in the movie.
At first, I thought that Diane is the one who is Betty. But, Betty is the crew in the coffee shop. The reason why Diane is called Betty at the first part of the movie is because it is just her dream that have counterparts in the reality.

And at first, Diane and Camilla are strangers to each other but at the end of the story, when the box was opened by Camilla who is known as Rita at first, the story begins to shake my mind. The characters are shuffled and it was changed when the box was opened. That box was really mysterious!

I think the story begins when the blue box was opened. It is the key in the story to know what really happened before. The key shows symbolisms. At the end of the story, little old couples come out from the blue box and it suggests a surrealist characteristics. The old couple is the reason why Diane got herself shot. Maybe, they are Diane’s guilt who is really big.
